Overview
On April 1st, 2026, a delegation of students from the International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB), under the guidance of Mr. Emmanuel Zamble Bi, visited the headquarters of the Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM) in Plateau, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Originally organized for students enrolled in the Valuation course, the visit also welcomed participants from other disciplines, including Economics and Political Science, creating a diverse and engaging academic experience.
The visit then, took students inside the BRVM’s Operations Room, where they discovered the technological systems that support daily market activities. Equipped with servers, monitoring screens, and international clocks displaying time zones such as Singapore, the room illustrated the global and time-sensitive nature of financial markets. Students were able to observe professionals at work and gain a
deeper appreciation for the infrastructure and coordination required to ensure efficient market operations. The experience was made even more inspiring by the presence of an IUGB student currently interning in the department, demonstrating the opportunities available to students within such institutions.
Inside the market
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by BRVM representatives, who delivered an insightful presentation on the institution’s history, evolution, and regional importance. During the session, students learned about the BRVM’s role as the common stock exchange for the eight member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), as well as the different types of markets, includingthe primary and secondary markets.
The presentation also introduced the various financial assets traded on the exchange. It challenged common misconceptions by showing that investing is not limited by age or large amounts of capital, and that it can be accessible to young people and first-time investors with modest resources.

The visit also point up the strong connection between academic learning and professional opportunities. Seeing examples of students and graduates gaining experience within such an institution reminded participants that classroom knowledge can lead to meaningful careers when combined with initiative, curiosity, and practical exposure
LASTING IMPACT
Theory Meets Practice
Overall, the visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect academic concepts with real-world applications. Topics studied in class, such as valuation, financial assets, and market structures, became more concrete through direct exposure to a leading regional financial institution.
